I’m not a Model – but I DO Models

Thought Models that is.  Let me explain.

CTFAR

There you go – the formula for everything you ever want, for every action you ever want to take, for every emotion you ever want to feel, for every thought you ever want to think NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCE!!

What?  You want more details?  Ok.  Here goes.


C stands for Circumstance.  That is something that happens that could be proven in a court of law, a fact that everyone would agree on.
 “The thermometer measured 84 degrees today” (Of course it’s 84 degrees.  It’s always 84 degrees in Hawaii!)

T stands for Thought.  That is a sentence in your brain about the Circumstance.  Here you’ll find emotion, judgement, opinion or attitude. 
“It’s too hot today to get any work done.”  (This couldn’t be in the Circumstance line because some people used to 100+ degrees might find 84 degrees a little chilly.  Some people used to 30 degrees might find 84 degrees delightfully warm.  So this is a Thought.)

F stands for Feeling.  That is a vibration in your body caused by the Thought in your brain about the Circumstance.
“Frustration”  (They were replanting their garden and hoped for cooler weather.)

A stands for Action.  This is what you DO or DON’T when fueled by your emotion. 
“Postpone garden planting, sit inside in the air conditioning and watch TV.”

R stands for Results.  This is what happens after your action or non-action.  The result will ALWAYS prove your Thought. 
“Garden doesn’t get planted, no work is done.”  73-5949

The bad news AND the good news is this:  EVERY RESULT IN YOUR LIFE COMES FROM A THOUGHT!!

Change your Thought – Change your Life.  Simple as that!

Did I mention that it’s simple but NOT easy?  You know why?

We want to argue that our Thoughts are Facts:   My husband is rude Is NOT a circumstance.

C:  My husband spoke loudly and shut the door hard.  
T:  My husband is rude.
F:  Anger
A:  Withdraw from him, be unavailable when he gets home, go to sleep before he comes to bed, mono-syllables when speaking
R:  I’m rude to my husband.  He reacts rudely right back.

Pick a new thought: 
T:  I support my husband when he has something troubling on his mind.
F:  Compassion
A:  Fix his favorite dinner, create a calm evening, offer to give him a backrub
R:  I feel loving towards my sweetheart, husband feels safe and loved, I support my husband

Thoughts are FICTION.  The author in your brain made them up.  For example:

Circumstance: Husband’s late coming home. 

You can think:

He doesn’t love and respect me enough to be on time.
He stopped by MacDonald’s for a Coke instead of coming home.
He’s been in a car wreck.
He may be dead.
He’s rude

OR

He stopped to buy me flowers.
He’s helping someone with a flat tire on the road home.

You don’t know the truth so why not pick a thought that serves you?  Every thought we have is made up.  Only the facts are unchangeable.  The Thought, Feeling, Action, and Results are all up to me.

Play around with this.  Put CTFAR on the left side – fill it out with how things are right now.
Put CTFAR on the right side and pick a different Thought, Feeling, or Result.  And fill it out how you want it to be.

This is one of those simple tools that you will refine and perfect over a lifetime.  And what a lifetime it will be.

I’m starting with the R line – Results:

R          A vacation rental house in Hawaii I live in Jan – Apr and a vacation rental house in Utah I live in May-Dec

Next step?  List all the Actions I need to take to make that happen. 
Next step?  Identify the Feeling that will fuel the Actions every day from today until I have both sets of keys (might need a different Feeling to match the different Actions daily.)
Next step?  Chose a Thought that will create the vibration in my body (Feeling) that will fuel the Action to get the Result.

What’s on your R line??  You can put anything you want there.  (Except I think being a Rock Star might be out of reach for me but you never know what Senior Center might be starting a Mama’s and Papa’s revival band! I know – you may be too young to know who they are.  Google it!)
